First meeting

“I am Grandpa Cheng, I also run a small store in The Sector.”

Site narration

Grandpa Cheng runs a small store of his own in the sector and buys food from you to resell at his usual price, which loses him money because he will not raise it. Orphans and old workers depend on him, and he hands out expired but usable meds on credit. He later dies in his sleep, and Joe Wild passes the news on.

What is recorded

Site narration

  • ConfirmedHe introduces himself as Grandpa Cheng, running a small store in The Sector. A late food shipment leaves orphans and old workers waiting; he buys food from the player to resell at his usual price, which means he will lose money, because he can't raise prices or someone will starve.
  • ConfirmedHis water purifier breaks; supplier wants him to replace it and stop maintaining it himself — he hears that as a push to retire. He is tired but customers depend on him and he cannot afford a new machine; he asks for materials to fix it.
  • ConfirmedPeople donate thanks, even Luxury Items in his trash can; he sells leftovers that won't interest his usual customers, coughing through the visit.
  • ConfirmedDiagnosed with an illness treatable but likely fatal at his age, he forgoes treatment, will sell the store and donate savings to Lower Levels charities, doubts anyone wants his margins, and asks the player to donate leftover food to the food banks.
  • ConfirmedA customer sent by Grandpa Cheng wants meds: Cheng usually has expired-but-usable meds at fair prices, sometimes on credit — 'Credit! In the Lower Levels!' — but is out of stock.
  • ConfirmedSawyer says Cheng fed him as a street urchin, worries the old man opens late with less stock, and asks the player to keep an eye on him.
  • ConfirmedWild reports Cheng passed away last night in his sleep, a true pillar of the Lower Levels residents, and leaves a remembrance.
